General Assembly

Hana Safadi, Chair

The philosophy of perception is concerned, in particular, with how perceptual experience and the status of perceptual data relate to notions about, or cognizance of, the world. The whole world is predicated on perception. Each country has its own perspective on different topics, which is why consequential issues form and ineluctably must be addressed. This is why it is this year's theme; without perception, the United Nations would not exist.

The General Assembly, which was established in 1945, is one of the United Nations’ main organs, which is the UN’s main deliberative, policy-making, and representative organ, and it’s responsible for addressing ecumenical issues as well as formulating policies to solve those issues. 193 countries are equal members of this committee, each with a different perception of every issue

For this year's conference, my esteemed chair, Hana el Safadi, and I have chosen three topics we believe will genuinely highlight each country's different perception, engender great debate, and genuinely challenge our delegates to think outside the box. These topics are consequential issues that have either been brought up in the past without a vigorous enough solution or have not been brought up at all. Our first topic is "Setting Measures to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)." Our second topic will be "Safeguarding Human Rights of persons affected by Climate Change," and finally, our third and final topic will be "Questioning the use of Artificial intelligence (AI)." Each topic is unique and affects an immensely large portion of the world, which is why it's our delegate's job to find solutions using their different perceptions, not to fight but to collaborate and engender greatness.

Hana and I are prodigiously excited to be your president and chair in the general assembly in HIAMUN’24. We are ready to examine young delegates visually, rise to the occasion, create greatness, and have a heated but effective debate.
