General Assembly Third Committee

Nelly Shehab, President

Welcome to GA3, a forum dedicated to some of the most pressing social, humanitarian, and cultural issues facing the international community today. As one of the most discussion-driven committees at the conference, GA3 gives delegates the opportunity to debate issues that directly impact people, identities, and societies around the world. Together with my distinguished and hardworking chair, Basel Ahmed, I am honored to welcome you to the committee and look forward to the thoughtful debate and diverse perspectives that each delegate will contribute throughout the conference. Our conference theme this year is Convergence, which is deeply reflected within GA3 through the intersection of cultures, ideologies, and approaches to global problem solving. Our committee serves as a space where differing perspectives can come together in pursuit of meaningful discussion, mutual understanding, and effective solutions.

Basel Ahmed, Chair

Together, my chair and I carefully selected these topics to encourage meaningful debate on issues that remain deeply relevant within today’s international landscape, while also challenging delegates to consider the balance between humanitarian responsibility, state interests, and long-term global progress. This year, delegates will engage with the topics of “Addressing Child Labor While Considering Economic Constraints in Developing States," examining the balance between protecting children’s rights and acknowledging the economic realities faced by many nations; “Addressing and Preventing Human Rights Violations in Privately Operated Detention Facilities," with a focus on accountability, transparency, and the protection of fundamental human rights; and “Preventing the Misuse of Citizenship Laws and Administrative Procedures to Discriminate Against Specific Populations," exploring the consequences of exclusionary legal practices and their impact on vulnerable communities worldwide. Each topic challenges delegates to navigate differing national interests and perspectives while working toward solutions that uphold dignity, equality, and global responsibility.

We are incredibly excited to welcome you all to GA3 and cannot wait to witness the engaging debate, creative resolutions, and meaningful discussions that will define this committee. We hope your experience in GA3 is both memorable and inspiring, and we look forward to meeting each of you at the conference.

Nelly Shehab, President of the Third General Assembly
