For HIAMUN’s 17th annual conference, the Academic and Organizing Committees chose the theme Convergence. Convergence means coming together toward one point, whether through ideas, perspectives, or goals. This theme reflects the power of different voices meeting, connecting, and working toward shared solutions.
To understand why this theme was chosen, we interviewed HIAMUN’s executive team: Secretary-General Sumaya Zewail, Deputy Secretary-General Alhusayn Al Bedawi, and Deputy Secretary-General Nadia Shokri. Each of them shared how Convergence reflects the vision of this year’s conference.
For Secretary-General Zewail, Convergence connects directly to HIAMUN’s purpose. She explained how Model UN brings students from different backgrounds, opinions, and experiences into one space, where they learn to listen, debate, and work toward solutions. To her, the theme reflects HIAMUN’s goal of creating a conference where every voice matters and every idea has the chance to contribute to something greater.
Sumaya emphasized that Convergence is not only about what happens during debate, but also about what delegates take with them afterward. A speech that changes someone’s perspective, a resolution that addresses real issues, or the confidence gained from standing up to speak, all reflect the lasting effect of people coming together with purpose.
She also highlighted that Convergence represents growth. When delegates share their ideas, they are not only shaping committee discussions, but also building skills, confidence, and connections. This shows how HIAMUN’s impact reaches beyond committee rooms, influencing friendships, leadership, and future paths.
Deputy Secretary-General Al Bedawi explained the theme through collaboration and unity. He described Convergence as the process of individual ideas meeting and developing into stronger outcomes. To him, this is exactly what HIAMUN represents: a place where delegates bring their own opinions, listen to others, and work together to form clauses, resolutions, and solutions with stronger meaning.
Alhusayn also stressed that Convergence applies to every part of the conference, not only to delegates. The Academic and Organizing Committees both play a major role in shaping HIAMUN’s success. When the AC and OC share one vision and work together, the conference becomes more organized, impactful, and meaningful for everyone involved.
Reflecting on his own MUN journey, Alhusayn shared how collaboration has always been one of the strongest parts of HIAMUN. One idea on its own might be limited, but when people add different perspectives, challenge each other, and build together, the result becomes stronger. To him, Convergence is about teamwork, trust, and the strength that comes from shared effort.
Deputy Secretary-General Shokri focused on Convergence as a way of bringing differences together. She explained that MUN has always been about more than debate. It is about understanding different perspectives, finding common ground, and turning disagreement into progress. For Nadia, Convergence reflects the way HIAMUN encourages delegates to move past division and work toward agreements.
Nadia’s perspective shows that Convergence reflects the essence of MUN: transforming separate opinions into shared action. Her view connects directly to HIAMUN’s mission of helping delegates understand the value of cooperation and the power of collective problem solving.
From the voices of its executive team, it is clear that Convergence is more than a theme. It is a vision for HIAMUN’s 17th annual conference. Sumaya emphasized how it symbolizes purpose and lasting impact, Alhusayn explained its connection to teamwork, and Nadia described its role in bringing different perspectives together. Together, their ideas show why Convergence was chosen as this year’s conference theme.
Convergence reflects the heart of HIAMUN: people, ideas, and actions coming together to create stronger solutions, deeper understanding, and a lasting impact beyond the committee rooms.
